Description steve c 2019-05-12 14:09:20 UTC
Description:
Please default "Keep ratio" in Image properties editor in Writer to ticked, or provide a user preference for the default value to be ticked or unticked.

I would expect that the majority of image resizing would involve the aspect ratio be kept rather than not. The value is retained if the Image dialog is re-opened whilst the document is kept open, but if the application/document is closed then the value switches back to unticked. Perhaps the ticked/unticked value could be persisted between application restarts instead?

Perhaps the same could be done for the 'Anchor' value?

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Edit document, add an image, open properties.
2. Tick 'keep ratio'
3. Save and close document.
4. Re-open document, add an image, open properties.
2. 'keep ratio' is unticked.

Actual Results:
'keep ratio' is unticked

Expected Results:
Please enable defaults for 'Keep Ratio' and 'Anchor' to be set, or allow their values to be persisted between application re-starts.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Thank you for reporting the bug.
it seems you're using an old version of LibreOffice.
Could you please try to reproduce it with the latest version of LibreOffice
from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ ?
I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' if the bug is still present in the latest version.

I've tried with both LibreOffice_6.2.4_Win_x64.msi (6.2.4.2) and LibreOfficeDev_6.3.0.0.alpha1_Win_x64.msi (6.3.0.0.alpha1) and the behaviour is as originally described.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Edit document, add an image, open properties.
2. Tick 'keep ratio' and close dialog.
3. Save and close document (ensure no other LibreOffice process is running).
4. Re-open document, add an image, open properties.
5. 'keep ratio' is *un*ticked.

Other behaviour:
1. Edit document, add an image, open properties.
2. Tick 'keep ratio' and close dialog.
3. Re-open image properties and 'keep ratio' is ticked.
4. Add a second an image, open properties and 'keep ratio' is ticked.
5. Open a second document.
6. Add an image, open properties and 'keep ratio' is ticked.
7. Close both documents (ensure no other LibreOffice process is running).
8. Re-open document, add an image, open properties.
9. 'keep ratio' is *un*ticked.

The previous value of 'keep ratio' is maintained while a writer process is running, but is lost/reset when writer is freshly started.

I did raise this as an enhancement request as this may be the expected behaviour, but, given the way I use writer, it would be more user friendly if 'keep ratio' defaulted to ticked, or there was an option to choose the dafault value (perhaps under Formatting Aids). (I would not expect keep ratio to be remembered for each image.)

Thanks

LibreOffice - Writer - Image - keep ratio button

This is something I also would like to see happen sooner than later and was just about to suggest myself.

I want to resize an image to an exact size because I have a set layout with multiple images and I want all images to be the same width or height. I don't fail to do so, but it's a hassle to always click the box every time you restart LibreOffice.

Issue was already present in OOo 3.3, but I can't reproduce the default setting being lost when saving, closing and inserting another image. Tested with:

Version: 7.6.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 002f941ec20e594e9702c39fab9cf9f4cc392dab
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: en-AU (en_AU.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

So that part is resolved.

However, let's keep this open as an enhancement request to make all images have "keep ratio" as a default when inserted, regardless of what the user has done before.

Such a behaviour would be consistent with MS Office.
