Description: I'm only getting acquainted to sections :) /// as I see, text under a heading is a "section"... although section means a distinct thing in Writer /// it'd be great to have a right click menu option when clicked on a heading: "select this section" or: "select all under this heading" (to avoid ambiguity) when editing text, the user oftentimes finds her/himself trying to select all the text under a heading... which his not so easy if that section exceeds several pages...like 5-6 cause in that case, you can easily select another section, too... (seriously :)) selection is already an intelligent thing, allowing users to select word, sentence, paragraph... selecting an entire section would be just the logical next step :) Steps to Reproduce: 1. try to select ALL text under a heading... 2. 3. Actual Results: you have to place the cursor at the beginning... scroll to the end of the desired selection zone, while pressing shift, and click again... Expected Results: you could be able to right click on heading and choose "select ALL text under this heading"... (which would include text under smaller level, higher number, headings, too, like heading 3 and 4 under a "heading 2") and that would be it... Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: I make this suggestion under a title "SECTIONS" enhancements cause, as I see it, these are all about "sections", since text under a heading is a section, too (or is there another term for that?)
Sounds like the better solution to bug 129733 "remove content" (select all, delete, remove) and bug 129735 "move selection" (select all, ctrl+alt+up/down - works only within the section or document yet).
Hi Peter, In reply to peter josvai from comment #0) > selecting an entire section would be just the logical next step :) Top right the Navigator there is the Navigation tool. That allows you to select to navigate per Heading. If the behavior could be extended, so that it obeys if one holds Shift pressed, your wish would be fulfilled, it looks to me. What do you think?
We discussed this topic in the design meeting and decided to add standard functionality to section. That is copy, cut, paste, delete and ideally we have it in the sidebar and/or the context menu. Cor's shift+click idea could be one expert solution. However, we need more obvious interactions and that could be a "Select content" command/function in the Navigator. We could also add the command to the section context menu.
