Description Richard 2020-02-18 01:13:52 UTC
Description:
Regularly when adding selected text to the clipboard (ctrl+x) using cut nothing is added the the clipboard. This results in the highlighted text disappearing and no text being able to be pasted. The solution is to undo the action of cut (ctrl+z) to get the text back or mashing (ctrl+c) a few times before copying text. This problem is limited to Libre office on my computer.

Ubuntu 19.10
Libre office Version: 6.3.4.2 (Bug present in past version as well)

Steps to Reproduce:
1.cut text (ctrl+x)
2.paste text (ctrl+v)
3.cut text disappears and nothing is in the clipboard

Actual Results:
1.cut text (ctrl+x)
2.paste text (ctrl+v)
3.cut text disappears and nothing is in the clipboard

Expected Results:
1.cut text (ctrl+x)
2.paste text (ctrl+v)
3.cut text should appear

Reproducible: Sometimes

could you try the cut or copy the text in the text editor?
Comment 3 Richard 2020-02-18 14:04:55 UTC
No issues on the text editor. This is only a problem in Libre Office.
Comment 4 Ahmad Haris 2020-02-19 00:30:12 UTC
I just fresh installed ubuntu 19.10, then I try to reproduce it. result:
1. if cut paste one word, it's normal
2. if cut paste two word, it's weird, sometimes not showing, sometime only a word, or two word with different order

Version: 6.3.4.2
Build ID: 1:6.3.4-0ubuntu0.19.10.1
CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 5.3; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3;

Calc: threaded

After apt upgrade, it's works fine
Comment 6 Richard 2020-02-19 17:51:13 UTC
I put this into to terminal:

apt-get upgrade

It didn't make any difference. Although I don't know if you mean something different.

I thought that I might add that this issue extends to right clicking and doing a cut then paste, not just keyboard shortcuts. It does not affect any other program e.g. email client, google docs in web browser etc. I don't use Open office but I could install it to see if that is effected or not?

This may be a duplicate of bug 57147 or bug 116983.
So that it's not CUT issue but PASTE.

Installed 6.4.2.2
Mac Catalina 10.15.3
I also can't get the command c and command v to work in Libre but the right clicks work when the keyboard short cuts don't.

Richard, please decide:

> So that it's not CUT issue but PASTE.

We also have bug 128714 for Ubuntu, but I'd stick with those.

It seems to me that coping or cutting text randomly does not update the clipboard so the previous clipboard entry is pasted rather than the copy/cut which has just been done. This is more frustrating with CUT because you loose what has just been CUT but the issue extends also to COPY. Therefore I dont see it as a paste issue since pasting works - it just pastes old text from the clipboard which should have been overwritten by the previous Copy/Cut.

I'm no expert - my work around is to hammer ctrl+c 5 or 6 times to ensure that my text is definitely in the clipboard before cutting or copying anything.

RE Bug 57147:

My issue appears different to this bug. Libre office does not hang or experience any issues with unresponsiveness. It is rock solid but it seems that the clip board is not updated with the latest cut or copy. This seems to occur completely randomly ie. not after a predetermined number of copies or cuts. Copy/Cut then paste works a couple of times then it doesn't then it does. Its not a total failure needing a restart as in this bug.

RE Bug 116983:

The options to Edit-paste, Edit-Paste_Special and Right_Click-Paste Right_CLick-Paste_Special are not greyed out as in this bug.

I'd say this is the duplicate, but duplicate is anyway.
