Description: In the most recent update, adding comments to a document and selecting Optimal View, makes comments stretch out such that the document text becomes smaller but the comment box stretches in width to fill the screen. Normally Optimal view allows reading of the document but makes space to have a comment with about 1-2 inches wide. Now the comment is 6+ inches wide and the document text shrinks and is almost too small to read. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open Writer document (I opened a Word 2007 doc and saved as odt) 2.Highlight some text and select Add comment button 3. Comment is off screen and you can't read it at all 3.Select View:Zoom:Optimal 4.Click on the side button on the Navigator to close the Navigator pane. Actual Results: The comment box is unusually wide and with Optimal zoom the document gets small. Expected Results: Optimal view should have the small comment box with wrapped text and a readable document as it has in 24.02 and earlier. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Behaviour for Optimal Zoom and size of Comment should be as LO 7.6 or LO 24.02.

Now, itβs available changing the width of comment's column. It's possible to modify the width dragging it by right side of the column.
How does one do that? I've tried to select and drag etc. but nothing is working. I also tried to find a pop-up menu or settings for comments but haven't found that either. In the end I've resorted to downgrading to 24.2.5 as it worked without this issue. If you can direct me to the docs that shows how to adjust the comments/format the size, I would be grateful. Thank you.
As I continue to try to make this work, I found bug 73953 and 159145 that were cited regarding creating this change to 24.8. I am not able to find an anchor to try to rightsize the comment. In any case there should be a way to make this change from either a pop-up (ctrl+click|right click) or from the menu. If it exists, then please pass along instructions on how to access the menu. Thanks!

Thank you @m_v_riosv. I tried this on a Mac and I could change the width only for a moment. As soon as you select View:Zoom:Optimal View, the comment grows wider and the ability to adjust the width is not possible. I will try to record the steps to produce this also.
[Automated Action] NeedInfo-To-Unconfirmed
I saw the update to 24.8.1 and thought I'd give it a try. After selecting View:Zoom:Optimal and adding a comment with the navigation panel open on the right side, the new comment box stretched out so far that I had to close the navigation panel. It is not possible to resize the comment box. When you re-open the Navigator panel on the right side, the document and comment become very small and hard to read. The comment box can not be made smaller. I've tried to drag the bar from the comment but it just doesn't move. Unfortunately I can't do a video as the document is confidential. Screenshot will be attached.
Created attachment 196433 [details] LO 24.8.1 still has microscopic comment problem Note that the file was originally a docx. I saved it as an odt and made the comments within the odt file.
Every file that is opened after the comment box grows to max size, has exactly the same problem. The comment box is now max even if the view is not optimal.
I am having the same issue even without using Optimal view. Today I opened a legal document (.docx - LO says it's MS Word 2007 when I save as) and the first comment is maximum width and it is not possible to reduce the size. I've saved as an .odt and that doesn't make a difference. This is extremely frustrating as the comment column is 50% of the width of my screen and can't be reduced.
Have been testing the following version that is supposed to be fixed. Version: 24.8.2.0.0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 10f5e3d255c094bb34155f6354b93e93289e43a0 CPU threads: 16; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 22631); UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win Locale: en-CA (en_CA); UI: en-US Calc: CL threaded Unfortunately it isn't fixed for docx Office 365 files. The resizing of the comment box doesn't work in that version. Following is repeatable. 1) Open Writer document 2) Highlight some text and add comment 3) Select comment to try to shrink or increase size 4) Comment will spread out to maximum size 5) Despite there being a cursor "|" to drag and resize, the resize box doesn't work.
Not reproduced. The only difference I see with our setups is that you have UI render: Skia/Vulkan. Version: 24.8.1.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 87fa9aec1a63e70835390b81c40bb8993f1d4ff6 CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 22621); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: threaded Version: 25.2.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: deaa5dc2a4d5446cdd120236615608702598e365 CPU threads: 2; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (10.0 build 22621); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-GB Calc: threaded
Hi @Buovjaga I ran a test this morning on a docx Word 365 created on Office365 and same file type using LO. It appears to work OK now. In the mean time, I have updated to the production verion of 24.8.2 from the beta, I have the disabled the "start LO at login" because that caused crashes and started using the Zotero addin. Today I updated to 24.8.3 and appear to be OK. So please close this as it is no longer happening. Thanks for your help everyone and in particular Rafael Lima who fixed this bug on 162937.
