Description feveal 2025-11-03 12:27:45 UTC
Description:
In a cell containing an email address (xxxx@yyyy.es), when correcting the text from the input box, the cell only displays the last corrected characters, not the entire text. For example, in the email address xxxx@yyyy.es, yyyy.es is deleted and replaced with zzzz.es. The text box displays xxxx@zzzz.es, but only zzzz.es is transferred to the cell; yyyy@ disappears. To change it to the correct value, I had to delete the entire text and re-enter it completely. The correction process is not working correctly.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Enter email in a cell ej: xxxx@yyyy.es and intro
2.Go back to the cell with the email and go to the text box to correct the value
3.Change the value "es" to "com"
4.The value that appears in the cell is "com", the rest of the string has disappeared

Actual Results:
"com"

Expected Results:
"xxxx@yyyy.com"

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
The error only occurs with email strings

I confirm this bug.

I detected the bug in the version 24.2.7.2 under Kubuntu 24.04, but I also have version 25.2.6.2 installed under Windows 11 and it has the same problem.

How do you do that?

After activating menu Tools - AutoCorrect Options - Options tab - [x] URL Recognition, I wrote an email address, and once I pressed Enter I couldn't edit the email address, just could delete it.

Do you marked [x] URL Recognition?

For me, the same happens with www.ask.com or any other URL.

That's right. It also has the same problem when correcting a URL.

It's not a bug, use Insert - Hyperlink to edit the text. When the text becomes a link, it is a rich object that can no longer be edited in the simple input box.

We can call it whatever we want: bug or significant deficiency. I know that writing the full name again solves the problem, but you'll agree with me that it's a significant deficiency that other similar programs don't have.
Comment 9 feveal 2025-11-18 16:39:03 UTC
For example: This doesn't happen in LibreOffice Writer. If you type an email address or a URL, it recognizes it and assigns a link. If you later modify either of them, the hyperlink is automatically updated as well. Writer is part of the same suite as Calc; one works correctly, and the other doesn't.

Well, I found an earlier request that was accepted. I guess it's fine, if the link text matches the link.
