Hi,

 IMHO it's critical to have a working auto-updater as early as possible. It will boost LibreOffices image, because nobody except hackers think about updating software to the newest version.

On Mac i would use the standard Sparkle: http://sparkle.andymatuschak.org/
On Windows there's a port of it: http://winsparkle.org/
