A big difference I found between LibreOffice and MS Office is the ability to edit charts directly clicking in any component (series, labels, axis, etc), while in LibreOffice you need to double click the object to activate it and then you can edit it. Also, since MS Office 2007, formulas are activated just putting the cursor on it. You can even move the cursor with the arrow keys and enter in the formula. I'm sure it's not trivial but it would be nice if a similar ability is added into LibreOffice.
Hi, but doing so we will lose the image capabilities of the chart and its options, so I'm not sure it's an enhancement. Sophie

Sorry for my ignorance, but what are _image capabilities_ and why would they be lost? Are they the "preview" that one see and is stored inside the .ODx file?
Hi Francisco, when you click one time on the chart, you'll see green handles around it, if you right click in this mode, you'll have several options to manage the chart as an image, also another toolbar appears giving you graphical options. The double click enter the Edit mode (gray border instead of handles) and the Chart options. HTH :) Sophie
I see. Color backgrounds and borders are options already available for the chart (I mean, inside the Chart application, and for the chart, when it's activated). But you can't edit backgrounds or borders from a toolbar (nor even text, see also bug 58038) I think that most of that options doesn't have to disappear in the case I propose. Chart toolbar isn't really huge... that toolbar could remain there. In fact, it would be nice if, once activated the chart, it were possible to edit background and borders from the same toolbar. Maybe the most problematic is "rotating" charts, but "line color", "background/fill", "size", "anchors", "position", etc, wouldn't have to disappear in my proposition.
@Sophi: I have an additional comment wrt the "image like" editing of a chart. When you create a chart, and you add a different background (a different color from white, a gradient, etc.), you can't see it applied before you activate the chart and select a transparent background for it. I think this is another bug (an UX bug, maybe?) since me, as a user, try to apply a background (for example), but after that I don't see it. But it's related to this one, or at least, on how object formating is handled.

Yes this same thing was discussed on friday in the design session for revamping charts that it would be useful to not have to go into edit mode to manipulate the chart, as all other office suites have it in this manner. The image capabilities that Sophie mentions wouldnt have to be lost.

One additional comment: My idea in this bug report covered also Math Equations, not only charts. Just for if it wasn't clear Regards
