It would be useful to have a Word Count section in Tools > Options, as a number of users, primarily authors, like to customize what things are part of the Word Count. The section could also be used to customize how the word count statusbar field is formatted. Additionally there are LO extensions that provide the same functionality. Bug reports that would benefit from this section include :- Bug 74895 - Wrong character count as compared to MSO2007 and other LO versions Bug 83771 - Set a style to exclude from word count Bug 59961 - count characters per line in status bar Bug 79059 - context menu to change display of information in word count status bar Some LO extensions :- https://github.com/executie/LOSessionTarget Set which paragraph styles are included in the word count https://github.com/executie/LOStyleWordCount Word count limited to text in paragraphs, tables, footnotes, and endnotes
Why do you think this deserves a whole page in Options? Wouldn’t be enough to just provide quick right-click options in the status bar? At this point, adding even more options counters this gradual cleanup effort: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Whiteboards/KillOptions

Maybe it doesnt deserve a whole page, maybe the current Word Count section under Writer > General would suffice. > Wouldn’t be enough > to just provide quick right-click options in the status bar? Status bar context menu would be able to solve simple things like bug 59961, but it wont solve the ability to define what sections of a document should be included in the word count. > At this point, > adding even more options counters this gradual cleanup effort: > https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Whiteboards/KillOptions According to < https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Design/Whiteboards/OptionsRework >, the kill options page is to remove options "that duplicate each other, are dangerous, or are useless". Word count is an important feature in writer and those who utilize it (me not included) benefit from being able to tweak it to their needs.
We're replacing our use of the 'ux-advise' component with a keyword: Component -> LibreOffice Add Keyword: needsUXEval [NinjaEdit]
Also wouldn't think about T>O when it comes to word count. Users rather expect comprehensive information in the respective dialog and maybe a customizable information at the status bar, see bug 123083.
