Created attachment 121181 [details] tab stop with text boxes Adding a tab stop inside a Text Box isn't applied to text box. Instead, the new tab stop applied to the normal text *outside* the Text Box. As far I can see, many features like inserting tables are disabled for Text Boxes. Disabling tab stops for Text Boxes might be a valid solution. My personal conclusion is: When I need tab stops I use frames instead of Text Boxes.
Reproduced. Win 7 Pro 64-bit Version: 5.2.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 917d59a84124d1022bd1912874e7a53c674784f1 CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Windows 6.1; UI Render: default; TinderBox: Win-x86@62-merge-TDF, Branch:MASTER, Time: 2015-12-12_12:17:04 Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI)

Created attachment 124512 [details] Screenshot displaying the issue in Writer Another reproduction procedure: 1. Start LibreOffice, create a new Writer document. 2. In the top ruler, set a manual tab stop somewhere. 3. Hit TAB to move the carriage to the created tab stop and enter some text there. 4. Insert a text box somewhere. 5. With the mouse, move the tab stop in the text box ruler. Expected results: 4. The text box gets inserted, with a new, default ruler. 5. Tab position for the text box changes. Actual results: 4. The ruler of the main text body, containing the previously manually created tab stop is shown for the text box. Although hitting the TAB in the text box does not move the carriage to that mark, but to default tabulator positions. 5. Tab position of the text in the main text body changes. Created attachment 124513 [details] Screenshot without issue in Draw This issue seems to be specific to Writer text boxes and partially to the slide bodies in Impress: - Draw: Issue does not occur - the tab stops can be set independently for each text box (see attached screenshot). - Impress (Ruler is not shown by default and needs to be activated): -- For title boxes: Issue does not occur. -- For body boxes: No tab stop interdependence between the boxes, but at the same time the manually set tab stops have no effect - the default tab stops are used instead. - Calc: Ruler cannot be shown and so no tab stops can be set. Version: 5.0.5.2 Build ID: 1:5.0.5~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty
Hi Dominik, * Adding tabs to the text in the text bow works fine for me in Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 63bf040056b64e0bf32a36277c54deee566de4fc CPU Threads: 4; OS Version: Linux 4.8; UI Render: default; VCL: gtk2; TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@70-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2016-12-06_00:37:50 Locale: nl-NL (nl_NL.UTF-8); Calc: group can you pls check?
Hi Cor, I've checked it and the bug is still there. Adding tab stops inside a text box has only an effect outside of the text box. Created attachment 129409 [details] bug demo In that video I add and remove a tab stop inside of a text box. But actually it is added outside of the text box. (showed at the end of the video)
Windows only?
(In reply to Cor Nouws from comment #8) > Windows only? It doesn't look like it. I can still reproduce it on 32-bit Debian with: Version: 5.4.0.0.alpha0+ Build ID: 76c21c57b7de227df87a285c3907157242ccddde CPU Threads: 2; OS Version: Linux 4.6; UI Render: default; VCL: gtk2; TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86@71-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2016-12-08_23:22:26 Locale: en-US (en_US.UTF-8); Calc: group

Currently you need to specify the tab stop in the paragraph property of the text box. Using the ruler does not work in Writer. Same for me my bug has been marked as a duplicate. Why it's not possible by default, it's nonsense.
