Description Jaime 2016-02-11 15:55:53 UTC
I would suggest that in LibreOffice Writer mouse pointer auto-hide like in text editors or other word processors.

Thank you!

UX/Design team, what do you think? Is this something for LO or should it be the role of the OS/DE?

- On Linux, a tool like xbanish could be used: https://github.com/jcs/xbanish
- Windows has Mouse properties > Pointer options > Hide pointer while typing: https://www.howtogeek.com/766041/how-to-hide-your-cursor-while-typing-in-windows/
- on macOS, it seems to be the default: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/71661/how-do-i-disable-hiding-of-the-mouse-pointer-while-typing-text
- with KDE and GNOME, it is done per app. See e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/15rvcfw/prevent_mouse_pointer_from_hiding_while_typing/
I just tested Gedit, GNOME Terminal and Firefox and they all hide the pointer while typing, whereas Chromium, Gnumeric, Falkon and Thunderbird don't.

So I'd say it needs to be implemented and given as an option in Options > LibreOffice > View, least for Linux.

Would be my idea too. And since we want to comply with system settings the option needs to be on/off depending on the system settings, at least in case of Microsoft.

I assume that hiding the cursor improves accessibility.

hi,

in short: +1, this is a MUST...

........... PS:

I couldn't resist filing this enhancement myself, too...
(Bug 160655)

It looks like you all agree here that it's a good idea.

My only suggestion is to think independently of the mirosoft...
cause otherwise we'll be the Achilles, not the tortoise who's leading the race...

Anyway:
why I think it is important to hide the mouse cursor is because it hinders you..
it's in sight covering the text..
very annoying...

I've been suffering from this only in the past months though...
what could have happened??

Maybe the frequency of repetition has risen in my case... i.e. I type more..

Or maybe it's because cursor hiding (think of video player applications) is a daily experience... these days...
and once you're used to it, you'll expect it to disappear when it's in the way...

Anyway: we need this :)

but not from microsoft's showroom...

they are second not first... all they have is business... a deprecated practice based on exploitation :)

- - - thank you for developing Libreoffice - - -
