Description Timur 2017-05-18 10:12:49 UTC
Current https://help.libreoffice.org/Calc/Recalculate says:
Choose Tools - Cell Contents - Recalculate
while recalculation from LO 4.0 is in "Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice calc/Formula - Recalculation on file load".

Default values should also be added, up to LO 3.6 it was "Always" and from 4.0 it's "Never recalculate". (I submitted a Bug 107929 on that).

Also, recalculation and cached value import should be explained.
Comment 1 Buovjaga 2017-05-24 17:28:23 UTC
Yep.
Comment 2 Buovjaga 2017-05-24 17:29:10 UTC
You could propose the explanation and doc team can steal it from this report, if you don't want to set up the help git repository (which is somewhat annoying now).

Recalculate

Recalculates all changed formulas that otherwise have caches values which are normally used for performance reasons.

Recalculation options are set in Menu/Tools/Options - LibreOffice Calc/Formula/Recalculation on file load with values: Always Recalculate, Never Recalculate (default option), Prompt User.

Press F9 to recalculate selected cells. A soft recalculation only recalculates dirty cells and it' useful if you disable automatic recalculation.

Press Shift+Ctrl+F9 to recalculate all formulas in the document, including the Add-In functions. The hard recalculation should correctly recalculate all the cells.

After the document has been recalculated, the display is refreshed. All charts are also refreshed.

If AutoCalculate is enabled, the Recalculate command applies only to formulas like RAND or NOW.
The Add-In functions like RANDBETWEEN currently cannot respond to the Recalculate command or F9.

Better matching reality ;-)

Recalculate

If AutoCalculate is disabled, the Recalculate command recalculates all
(so-called dirty) formula cells that depend on changed cell content and
their dependents, and formula cells containing volatile functions such
as RAND() or NOW() and formula cells that depend on them.

If AutoCalculate is enabled, the Recalculate command applies only to
formula cells containing volatile functions like RAND() or NOW() and
formula cells that depend on them.

In either mode, with formula cell(s) selected pressing F9 recalculates
the currently selected cells and formula cells that depend on them. This
can be useful after reading documents with recalculation disabled and
individual cells need recalculation.

Recalculation options are set in menu Tools -> Options ->
LibreOffice Calc -> Formula, Recalculation on File Load, with values:
Always recalculate, Never recalculate (default option), Prompt user.

Press Shift+Ctrl+F9 to recalculate all formulas in the document,
including Add-In functions. The hard recalculation correctly
recalculates all formula cells.

After the document has been recalculated, the display is refreshed. All
charts are also refreshed.

Haha, Eike changed the reality in Bug 102257 and than matched the text.

*** Bug 113985 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 8 Timur 2018-11-20 12:08:17 UTC
As Dan Dascalescu noticed in duplicated bug, documentation should be updated also for the menu location of recalculating formulas:

https://help.libreoffice.org/Calc/Recalculate points to the old location of "Recalculate"

Actual Results: Tools - Cell Contents - Recalculate
Expected Results: Data -> Calculate -> Recalculate

Thanks, Mark, but this does not seem to be fully done. The text in Eike's comment 5 was supposed to replace the contents of 06080000.xhp.

Buovjaga, how is this fixed when on this link is the same old explanation?

https://help.libreoffice.org/Calc/Recalculate
"Choose Tools - Cell Contents - Recalculate"

Because that is the obsolete wikihelp that has not been regenerated for years.
