On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, I could reproduce this. Miklos: thought you might be interested in this one since you're the author of the 2 commits quoted by Cor. I mean perhaps it's on purpose it doesn't appear in UI checkboxes in compatibility.
My attempt at this: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/119103 Currently the underlying option is not good enough (see bug 143456) to merge this, so abandoning. Ultimately bug 90921 would be needed to be implemented for correct footnote layout starting at the end of text and this would need to be extended for endnotes as a proper option.
