When editing a textbox in Writer, one cannot apply any style, and specifically, Character, Paragraph and List Styles, which are relevant within textboxes.

dupe and maybe also see bug 111921
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #2) So, definitely not a dupe of 89369, because "Drawing Object Styles" is not what I'm asking here. I want to apply styles to paragraphs, to characters and to lists, not to textboxes. Also, I want the styles I have already at my disposal, not some other set of styles. > and maybe also see bug 111921 That is a part of my ask, so will mark the releationship appropriately (I think).
Sorry, wrong dupe ref., it is bug 96706 for lack of following paragraph style hierarchy that affects text in these graphic objects. And of course one can use Frames where the text runs are handled as paragraphs, and styles.xml provides default 'Frame Contents' style that can be fully modified.
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #4) > And of course one can use Frames where the text runs are handled as > paragraphs, and styles.xml provides default 'Frame Contents' style that can > be fully modified. But does that style actually apply to textboxes? * If I change it (e.g. Green font color), and create a text box - I don't get Green text * The style inherits from Default PS; and if I change that - I get a change in the Frame Content style as well, and again - when creating a textbox, that change is not reflected.

> *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 96706 *** This is not a duplicate of bug 96706. That bug is about how the Default Paragraph style does not apply automatically to the contents of a textbox: * That bug does not regard Character and List Styles * That bug is not about the user's ability to apply styles to content within the textbox, but about the app's choice of how to style the textbox content when creating it.
