Description Kalenz 2012-11-09 02:50:57 UTC
Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Export an image (say, to PNG).
2. Make some small changes.
3. Export again.

Current behaviour:
When opening the "Export" dialogue for the second time, it has reset, so that "Export as" is set to "HTML", "Selection" is checked, and "auto filename extension" is also checked. In the case of wanting to create many images, or variants of the same image (very common in web design applications!!) this can be frustrating.

Expected behaviour:
It makes sense that, within a working session, all exports would be to the same format. So it should not be necessary to select the format and options again every time. (It seems reasonable to reset the dialogue after LibreOffice is closed.)

(openSUSE Linux | x86_64)

partly reproducible with LO 4.0.1.2 (Win7 Home, 64bit)

Different to the bug report "Selection" was not checked and not HTML as type but EMF was shown. Within a working session it would be good to keep the file type preselected.

I just came on to report the same issue.

It is very annoying that LO doesn't remember what export file format was previously used, at least during a session. Although I think it would be good to remember it even across sessions. With graphics, 90% of what I export is png. And there are times I have to export 10 or 20 things in a row. Why in the world is the default "html"????!!!!!

This would be a simple/easy fix that could save lots of time for the end user and make for a more friendly experience.

I am not sure if the "selection" option should be remembered or not, even depending on what file type was chosen. I tend to think it should be remembered (as long as setting it is valid for the file type).

same thing on Win7 Pro 64bit. changing platform to ALL.
I agree it would be nice to remember last format used withing session.
EMF is always selected as default export format.

Draw never remembers last format used on saving (this is inherited from OOo)
interestingly the default format is different among various OOo/LibO/AOO versions.

LibO 3.3.3 --> default format is .png
LibO 3.4.6 / 4.1.1 -->  default format is .png

OOo 3.3.0 --> default format is .pct
AOO 4.0.0 --> default format is .pct

I just tested this issue under LibreOffice 4.3.4 under Linux and it is still defaults to a most unhelpful "xpm" and doesn't remember previous setting.

And under LibreOffice 4.4.2 it is even worse, it now defaults to "html" on export while not remembering previous setting.

Ideally, it should default to "png" or "svg" and then remember the format the user last used as the new default for future exporting.

This problem is still occurring in 4.4.4 running under Win 7 Pro SP1 32 bit. In my case, the default pre-selected for every export is XHTML, with Automatic file name extension checked, and Selection not checked.

Tested on another system (LO 4.1.4.2. Win 7 Home Premium SP 1 64 bit). On that system, the export is always pre-selected as EMF, with Automatic file name extension checked, and Selection not checked.

The request to save previous settings is reported often. Filename and settings in bug 84655, file location in bug 98728, and compression in bug 89620.

Please add keyword 'needsUXEval' and CC 'libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org' if input from UX is needed.

Wanted to write the same enhancement-request. Have just exported 20 different screenshots for Base documentation from Draw to *.png.

Every time I open the dialog I have to switch the type of the file from *.wmf to *.png. (Up to LO 6.2.6.2 it is here: "All Formats", which isn't better for me ...)
Every time I open the dialog I have to set "Selection" to TRUE.

Tested with LO 7.0.0.1 and different other versions on OpenSUSE 15.1 64bit rpm Linux.

Same problem when exporting some images from CALC using file format SVG. During the session LO always resets the file format to PNG and does not remember the used file format (SVG). During the session LO should not reset automatically the file format (to PNG).

Tested with: LO 6.4.5.2(x64)/7.0.0.1(x64) @ Windows 10 Home
Comment 13 Heiko Tietze 2020-07-13 09:53:17 UTC
No need for further input from UX: the previous settings should made persistent.

Since LO 7.5.x (Fedora 38) exporting selection for png produces a file of zero bytes in both Impress and Draw. While gif export works. So it would be nice to save my selection of file type, so that I do not need to choose gif again and again.
