Grid settings "grid step" and others are now global (common to all documents). It makes me a problem when editing documents in which different grid settings were used. I propose to save grid settings into document in similar way like the units and scale settings are written.
Sounds reasonable, I set this as an enhancement.
Drawings may be done for different purposes that make an individual grid necessary. Saving the grid settings also means to enter them - at the page properties dialog perhaps - and to have a default when a new document is created. So you would always start with 0.5cm, as long drawings do not have a page style. Additionally to the grid settings it would be interesting to attach the scale values to the document (tdf#59068).

Regina, you do create special grids instead of the inbuilt function. Does it make sense to add this option to the document? Meaning also to remove it from Tolls > Options > Draw > Grid into a new per-document dialog.
The grid settings are view-settings. They are already stored in the file in the config-items 'GridCoarseWidth', 'GridCoarseHeight', 'GridFineWidth', and 'GridFineHeight'. An existing document is initially shown with the grid, that is stored in its config-items. But when you turn grid off and then on again, the settings from Tools > Options are used. I support to handle the grid per document. It makes sense to have it per document, because the needed grid depends highly on the size of the document. The settings in Tools > Options should only be the default for new documents.

Grid is set to invisible in Options. And the file you open does have grid visible. Now open options, tick Visible and the settings are applied immediately, > I support to handle the grid per document. But Resolution and Subdivision are used to change the actual view of an document too. So a good topic to think about a clear and usable solution.

@Cor: The issue boils down to proper loading. That's why I changed the summary. The text "No clear distinction..." is misleading and would make me expect a suggestion when I was a developer.
@heiko: and the settings is Tools > Options > Draw > Grid are for what? New default? Then how to handle the open document. For the open document? Then how to handle default? In any case, from the info and what I saw, to me the distinction is like spaghetti - with tomato sauce would you prefer ;)
